Donor Mustang manifold

Donor Mustang manifold

This is the 1986 5.0 HO inlet I used as a donor for the rails with onboard pressure regulator and injectors.
Having steel rails mean't I could remove the injector bungs and relocate them to suit my 308's port pattern.

solids all in place and braced up

solids all in place and braced up

I brought some solid alloy rod and shaped eight peices to match the contours of the sloping top of the intake runners .I decided to go straight down as it was easier to mount injectors and rails. Once I had 8 little numbered alloy solid wedges ,I made a brace to hold them all to the manifold steady as they were welded in place.

Back from the welder and the brace off

Back from the welder and the brace off

Once back from the welders off came the brace and away to the Engineer for some mill work. Using the Mustang donor as a template we could find the centres and mill out to match the injectors .

Now time to gut out the Holley and seal up the gallerys ,remove those venturi bits and the choke plate and linkages .Remove the valve bodys and mount a throttle position sensor to the primary shaft .Also I fitted a air temperature sensor to the factory air cleaner snout .

finished spacer

finished spacer

To get a factory air cleaner to fit I had to make an alloy spacer so it would sit above the fuel rails .

Plumbing sorted time to wire

Plumbing sorted time to wire

Check out the groovy brass pipe I used to curve around the carby. I had always had an issue after I had replaced the factory swollen heater pipe. Its a fairly sharp bend It needs to perform .This also worked well to avoid the auto Trans dipstick pipe at the firewall end !
