FX UTE No. 6 for sale

Original car & engine stamped No. 6; manufactured: Adelaide, South Australia assembly line 1951
It’s believed the Ute (originally pale blue) was transported brand new to a Holden dealer in the Port Augusta area, South Australia.

1st owner: (name unknown) had it until 1958 when it was traded in to a Holden Agency at Kimba, South Australia owned by Alan Vennings (deceased).

2nd owner: William Doherty (died early 1990’s) from Kimba, Sth Australia had it for 3 years 1958 to 1961 then sold it to his nephew or brother (not sure which)? He was named Frank, from Adelaide.

3rd owner: Frank Doherty (died 2003) and family moved from Adelaide, S.A to a property just over the Victorian border at Wakool River, N.S.W (near Swan Hill, Victoria) in 1964. The Ute was driven up from Adelaide. It was used initially (for the first 3 years) as a road vehicle by Frank until he had a car accident around 1967 and lost his license. Several parts of the car were damaged in the accident.
He sold it to his eldest son Eric aged 19 years.

4th owner: Eric Doherty (now working in Darwin or overseas) bought the Ute in 1967 and patched it up. As FX Holden parts were interchangeable with FJ Holden ones it was customary at the time to use whichever one was easier to get hold of. He may have put an FJ rear end on the vehicle? Not sure if the chassis was damaged and changed or not? Green (different colour) mudguards from a Holden sedan were put on the front. Eric used the Ute for spotlighting and shooting trips and as a general paddock bomb. After awhile the front guards were cut away a bit for driving through all the mud in the paddock because they kept clogging up and had rusted out a little too.
In 1975 Eric sold his property in Milloo, Northern Victoria; (West of Echuca).
The FX Holden Ute was included in the sale. Eric had updated to an EH Holden Ute.

5th owner: Andrew Bryan inherited the FX Holden Ute when he bought Eric’s property in Milloo. He used it as a paddock bomb until the car died; it was left abandoned on his farm.

6th owner: Norm Calder of Wonthaggi, Victoria and his wife Grace were in Swan Hill at a Swap Meet in 1993 where they met David & Eileen Bryan. They went to David & Eileen’s for a cuppa and met their son Andrew who was visiting. In conversations it was discovered Norm had a penchant for Vintage and Classic cars and for restoring them. Andrew told Norm about the abandoned FX Holden Ute on his property; he later decided to give it to Norm who had it moved back to his home in Wonthaggi. Norm & Grace travelled to many Swap Meets around Victoria over the next few years collecting parts for the restoration of the FX. All the parts necessary for completion including windscreens and seals were collected along with many spares. Norm completed panel beating and sandblasting of the exterior and painting some of the panels with undercoat. Unfortunately Norm; a self taught engineer, was distracted by working on many other projects including work on other old cars, antique clocks and steam engines. He was unable to complete the restoration before he died in 1999 from brain surgery to remove a tumour. Norm’s wife Grace does not drive and he had no sons. The vehicle and all its collected parts and spares have been garaged in Wonthaggi ever since.

7th owner: 2008 The FX Holden Ute is now up for sale to an owner who is enthusiastic about completing its restoration.
