V8 Lawnmower, The First Drive. Movie, about 1.2 Mb

*Movie 1.1 Mb* It is now a fully functioning V8 Lawnmower, just got the panel & paint to go.

V8 Lawnmower *Movie* Checking how level the deck is, it might be a V8 but it still has to cut good.

This is a good version of what we started.

It came into work for repairs, so I thought i'de grab a few pics.

Tis a nice shiny example of one.

The project (ours is a bit more messier than the last pics) one solid ride-on, add one small block chev and go mowing

All the covers stripped off.

Lifting the beasty motor out

18HP of pure 3 cyl deisel grunt ;)

Naked chassis, only thing left is the hydrostatic trans.

Motor positioned where it'll work in with everything, radiators sitting in as well.

Starting to cut the front crossmember out.

They do bloody good welds them robot welders.

Motor and crossmember in its position. Crossmember was shifted forward about 8 inches or so.

Got the motor now, will dummy it up to make the rails for the engine mounts.

Cleaning the motor up in these next two shots.

The casting number is the same as a 305, but the bore size and crank casting number says its a 262.

Pistons, rods, crank, cam & timing set are in.

You cant get chev 262 rings anywhere, ended up using red motor rings 080 thou over, they were nearly perfect.

Sitting the heads on.

Heads all bolted down now.

Slapped together to make it look like a motor, it turned out to be a good thing to use some leftover 350 bits.

Its all back together and painted. Used Satin black as that is the colour of the original motors.

Dummying up the 307 block to measure the rails for cutting.

Sticking a couple of support rails on before cutting it up.

Chassis has been cut.

The cuts are to make room for the starter motor and oil filter.

With it sitting in there, I can now make the engine mount brackets and build the new chassis rails.

Another look, bits of wood are for correct spacing from block to rails.

One side rail done, engine mount is done as well.
