Parked it in the shed so I can sit and think about what I want to do with it. Full resto or a quick tidy up.

Parts Car

Parts Car

This is another Tangerine HQ GTS/4 that I bought for parts. Well it appears to be a GTS going on looks alone but as the tags had been replaced with HQ Statesman ones at some stage it doesn't really matter.
It will come in handy for cutting rust repair patches from.
It will also be giving up it's T400 transmission.

Pulled a few panels off. I was going to get stuck in and do the rust repair on the cowl panel but it was at this stage that I suddenly decided to strip to a bare shell and build it once and build it properly. OK here goes!!!

I set about removing all items from the firewall this evening. Just got the brake booster to go but I'll wait to the front seats and console are out to make access to the bolts easier.

Steering removed. All bolts on the car have received plenty of doses of penetrene to make sure the stubborn ones don't put up too much of a fight. Many bolts on this car have not been removed for 30 years so a little preparation goes a long way. So far in the strip down I have only had two phillips head screws out of every fastener on the car which refused to come undone without stripping the head.

Every bolt and nut on the car will either be zinc plated or replaced with stainless items. In order to get a good job done with the zinc plating I take the time to clean them on the wire wheel. These three bolts hold on the steering box. This little extra effort will help ensure they come back from the platers looking great.

Now that the front suspension is removed I plan on next removing the subframe from the car. The subframe will be sand blasted and painted in satin two pack black. I just need to get that one last brake line undone and it is proving to be a bitch. It looks like I'll be making a couple of new brake lines as I have managed to round off two fittings (and that was even with using the correct brake line spanner).

Once the front lower suspension arms were removed I could see that the sway bar mounts have worn away the edge of the hole in the lower arms. Hopefully that arms on the parts car do not have the same damage.
