The first thing to do is to remove the radiator cap, pictured is the radiator cap.

Once the radiator cap is removed we can see the level and condition of the collant/water, in this case the coolant was recently changed so I wasn't expecting to see any problems. I like to keep the coolant topped right up to where it is in the picture, just below the pressure seal lip.

To drop the water/coolant from the engine and radiator we need to remove the bottom radiator hose from the bottom of the radiator, pictured is the bottom radiator hose.

The radiator hose is most likely held on by a screw clamp, a large screwdriver is all that is required to loosen these off, I loosen them until the clamp moved freely around the pipe to be sure there is no clamping pressure remaining.

When the pipe is removed the coolant/water will shoot out fairly quickly, so keep your nice clean boots clear. If the hose is stuck and difficult to remove (as they usually are) you can sometimes carefully lever them off with a large screw driver or give them a shake to get them off. They're fairly tough but they can still become weak with age so take care doing this.
