1. Heres a Common Knowledge guide, generally if you own an old holden you should already know how to do this sort of job but not everyone knows the basics. Our first step with draining the oil is to get the front of the car jacked up, this will push as much of the oil as possible to the rear of the sump, where the plug is (silver in the picture shown).

2. As can be seen in the above picture, some sump bolts can be hard to get to due to the steering arm being close to the sump, weve got 4 HRs and every one is different, my car for instance I have to use an open ended spanner to get the sump plug out, my wifes I can use a ring spanner, either way a 13/16 7/8 spanner should be the one for the job.

3. That my arm, mutated from scientific experimentation in the late 70s
actually its meant to be a picture showing a tray below the plug to catch the oil, remember well be dumping over 3 litres of oil, it tends to make a mess real fast, and youll be laying in it.

4. My photographic skills improve every pic I take
maybe not
anyway heres the oil draining into the bucket, as you can see there is a pretty good flow when it comes out, it pays to have a big tray to catch it with.

5. Now that the oil is draining/drained we can remove the filter, thats it with PF-10 on the side.

6. Heres our scientifically engineered tool to remove the oil filter, I like to call it the oil filter remover thing, how it works is you slide it onto the filter and you then crank the arm to remove the filter, unfortunately it only goes on one way to remove and the other way to do up, so youve got to make sure you get it the right way because on some cars it can be hard to get it on and off to change it around the other way.
