This is where and how we found her. The chassis rails had sustained only minor damage and the rear doors appeared to have difficulty closing.

The front of the car looked great - couldn't hear it run but took a punt. It ran as good as it looked. Showed signs of a recent overhaul in the last few years.

This shows the impact best. Hate to see the car that hit it. Bits of plastic on the rear bar give away the fact it was late model. We are told the woman who previously owned the car got paid out 10k from her insurance company. Still drove fine despite the damage.

The interior was near perfect. Original looking radio didnt work - we later simply removed it- it squeaked! Under those seat covers was perfect original upholstery!

Ouch! I was suspicious about the cars still good door gaps- it was not making much sense why the gaps were good but the doors didnt close. Later we realised some joker had fitted the new door rubbers upside down and back to front!Best keep that one to myself until after the auction. Most were dismissing the car as too far gone.I knew better! We were determined to get this car as we had just wrecked out a mint 57000 mile EK sedan and after finding this car knew we had the perfect parts to repair it-Properly.

Home at last - cost me nearly two grand at auction. I nearly had it bought for half that amount, but someone woke up and started bidding against me,then later apologised when it turned out he knew me.reckoned he would have let me have it if he knew I was there.Never mind.

Looks worse than it really is.It has pulled the drivers side 1/4 around a little - this is quite repairable without cutting and shutting but is not the way to repair a car like this.

From this angle you would never know. The car came with 5 new tyres and stainless (although now squashed!) exhaust. This in turn blew out the manifold gaskets as the exhaust had no where to go so sounds a bit rough at this point. It started pretty easily and showed signs it was a good motor no knocks or rattles and best of all no oil burning. In this shot I have had the motor running for twenty minutes in an attempt to use the remaining fuel in the tank...

The first step was to salvage the rear off the freshly wrecked EK standard. Looks like a prime cut on a butchers hook ...heh heh heh ....
* Mission control we are ready for launch*.... Actually I have some pretty wild plans for this.Something wild thats not been done b4...guess you will have to wait 'n see...maybe...

We have opened up the seat seam to allow an overlap- all spots have been drilled out to allow this to occur.

Here Harold is hamming it up.Sort of looks good as a stretch. As you can now see this is the easiest and most effective way to be rid of the damage cut way beyond the actual damage, so we can rest assured that there is no problems later.

The old rear is carefully removed by wheeling it away- of course all the fuel, brake lines and tail shaft were removed first.

The old daggy bits are cleaned up on the inner sill. Note where the sill has been cut - right on the join leaving all the old sill intact. The slight rust showing was addressed with the oxy welding b4 the new section was married up to it.

This shows a previous patch in the lower guard it was deemed to be satisfactory but after this shot we dug out the bog and welded it some more. We want it to last as long as possible.

I could'nt juggle the camera and weld simaltaniously! The floor was migged and the pillar joins oxy welded with the Henrob torch. Now its near impossible to pick from a factory assembly. A test drive over rough ground and all measuremets stayed the same

The other side. We didnt take any pics of the welding process It was a case of not having time to juggle the camera and weld simaltaniously. The floor was migged and the pillar joins oxy welded with the Henrob torch. Now its near impossible to pick from a factory assembly. I test drove the car over some rough ground and rechecked the measurements, nothing changed as expected and this was without the rearscreen or door catches to help hold it together!
There was a small burn mark in one corner from welding the C pillar, so we chose to repaint in a much nicer slightly creamier white as the previous white was too stark. We also altered the red slightly giving it more of an orange look.

Finally in booth for some colour! We have already repainted the roof. There was a small burn mark in one corner from welding the C pillar, so we chose to repaint in a much nicer slightly creamier white as the previous white was too stark. We also altered the red slightly giving it more of an orange look. It's the minor details that make the re- restoration that much nicer! Now finished it will be hard to pick the subtle changes.
Most of the original chrome that came with the car was in very good order. We have of course had a complete rear bar assy rechromed and added some new lenses. Val Neil restored all the stainless side moulds. Entire car was painted in & out.

Finally finished -
and for sale at only $10 000 ono. Most of the original chrome that came with the car was in very good order. We have of course had a complete rear bar assy rechromed and added some new lenses. Val Neil restored all the stainless side moulds. Paint is Glasurit two pack and the whole car ended up being done in, out and on top. We never intended to get this carrried away - but then again we always do.
Gear box also appears to be recoed as well. Some one had spent an awful lot of money on this car. I cant imagine how annoyed the lady was when it got bent. This was a recent restoration b4 I bought the car from Auction.

and re-applied the tar under the rear half as had been done previously . Best part is this car was never really rusty, it still has all its original floors & sills. The car was heavily rustproofed early in its life and this has paid off.

Now you would never know. We rustproofed the car again quite heavily and re-applied the tar under the rear half as had been done previously . Best part is this car was never really rusty, it still has all its original floors & sills. The car was heavily rustproofed early in its life and this has paid off. No one would have bothered with it if it was showing signs of rust or bad repairs.
Inside is very original. No rips or tears in the seats or door cards. Has new carpets and all new rubbers. We also added one of our recoed steering wheels and replaced the missing glovebox badge.

The original hoodlining is nearly perfect with two very minor tears down near the top of the rear seat squab. We re dyed the hood lining with proper Vinyl dyes and it came up looking like new.

its a joy to drive and we take it out every time we need to go out. Drives wonderfully. We recoed the rear brakes and had the Carby rebuilt. Many other new items that were only just fitted prior to the accident. ( shockies, water pump, exhaust etc)

Ready for a new home. I must admit after all that work I am slightly sad to put it on the market- its a joy to drive and we take it out every time we need to go out. Drives wonderfully. We recoed the rear brakes and had the Carby rebuilt. It also has many other new items that were only just fitted prior to the accident. ( shockies , water pump ,exhaust etc)
Due to the need to finish some of our "keeper" projects this one has to go... Pity I cant keep them all.
Bloody Harold has been at my cars with the damn hacksaw again! I only went away to answer the phone and this was the result!LOL
