While I normally don't do insurance jobs - I allowed this one through. Jake's wife drives this one daily and this is the result of a careless shopper deciding to wipe out the side of this fine car. The damage was actually a lot worse than this but I have kicked out most of the damage. The quarter panel copped it as well, although the dents are not obvious here. We prepared some other doors while we were waiting for this job to turn up - thus keeping the turn-around time for the whole exercise down to a week....

While Jake continued with negotiations with his insurance assesor - we hooked into the task at hand. Jake supplied the back door and I sourced a mint front one. This door appeared to only have minor rust and a few small dents- but.....

And this is why you cant just bog up what first appears to be a minor rust spot... All that rust needs to be gone. A quick trip inside the blast cabinet saw to this rust....

After sandblasting the rusted areas a new patch is fabricated and welded in. The old peice is kept for checking shape as well as evidence that the repair has been carried out.

As I didnt have jakes car while repairing the doors - I had to check my new reapirs on a mates car and make adjustments from there.

This door is much happier now. Prior to priming we applied the required thin skim of final glaze filler over the beaten areas. The rust repaired area got as thin skim of glass first to make sure it was well sealed off from any futere moisture that might try and make its way through....

The quarter had to be fully stripped back to bare metal in order to address the surface rust under all the previous repairs. Jake has done an astounding job in my opinion in welding in new sections... It was just unfortunate that he chose to paint the car in acrylic - as it is letting surface rust to reform under all the nicely prepared paint....

In the booth and ready for paint- Graham decided it was simplier to repaint the entire side - with a blend out in the front.
