The VZ is such a large car the rims look small

Drivers Side Interior

This is the day I bought it; if you look closely you can see it’s just clicked over 32,000 kilometres.

New Exhaust

It got a leak from the stud joining the inlet manifold to the exhaust manifold. The resonator also got a small hole. For some stupid reason I got extractors and a 2 ½ exhaust as replacement. But not for long . . .

Fuel Line

I was using lots of fuel, but the engine was fine. The give away was air bubbles in the fuel filter when the engine was running.

Drivers Side Interior Seat

Completely unmarked drivers seat, now gently shaped for my posterior.

New Exhaust 2

Realising slow and noisy was no fun I dumped the sports system and put back on a factory exhaust. I had the exhaust manifold matched to the ports and the faces machined. Then it and the stove pipe were ceramic coated black. The secondary pipes are high temp paint.

Emissions Lines

These lines are tucked up behind the drivers’ side rear wheel. You’ll have to drop the tank down a little to reach all of them.

Cold Air Intake

This is a Cold Air Intake from 2.85 VH. The only real benefit I’ve felt is in peak hour traffic when its hot the car is smoother and won’t start to idle roughly.

I like the wheel nut covers being black to stand out

Front Quarter

The only modifications are the VZ rims and it’s been lowered an inch during the suspension rebuild.

Original Rims

I nearly crashed on the way home because the twenty two year old tyres were so hard, but there was plenty of tread to pass a roadworthy

Passenger Side Interior

When I bought the car, there wasn’t a mark anywhere through the interior. People commented it still had a new smell.

Original Exhaust Replacement

The exhaust manifold and secondaries are standard blue 202, but from the first muffler back it is the factory single system from the V8 model. This keeps it quiet but still breathes better than standard. Using a standard off the shelf system means it fits perfectly and you can install it with no special tools.

Varajet Carburettor

It hasn’t given me any grief yet, touches wood.

Rear Quarter

OK the droopy exhaust tip isn’t standard, but does match the tips used in the early eighties.

New Rims

So i decided to replace the original hard as rock tyres, but some how came away with one day old VZ acclaim rims.

Exhaust Manifold Fitted

If you look closely you can see the EFE hole on the left has had the butterfly turned and brazed closed. The EGR on the right is managed by just blocking the vacuum hose with a ball bearing; this makes it easy to be legal quickly.

The Quiet Side

REPCO made a cross flow head for the 202 but Holden never went with it. If they had we may not have had the Nissan motor in the VL.

Side View

You have to look closely to see the suspension height drop, and the rims fill the arches in proportion.

Rear End

It’s the original acrylic paint with clear coat. If I was into antiques I’d say “The finish is excellent with a light age patina adding character”.

Ricer Oil Cooler

I had an Alfa Romeo years ago, with an alloy sump with fins to help cool the oil. This setup may not help but it won’t hurt.

New Stereo

I just couldn’t live with one speaker in the front and one in the back. I was going to keep it, then put an amplifier hidden under the dash, but I just hate cassette tapes. The stereo was chosen to match in with the interior, not just for lots of noise. The original working stereo is packed away.

Hold on tight . . . it’s a jack

The cleanest unrestored jack I’ve seen. The wheel brace is from a later commodore because when I changed to VZ wheels the nuts are smaller. I was going to spray it the original blue, but that’s just going too far.
