Shed: 1973 HQ One Tonner

I bought this HQ from an old guy in Victoria and bought it back to Tassie to star the resto project. It's had a sad old 253 and Traumatic tranny, It's had a bit of a birthday and now it's got a 350 Chev with a 650Holley and some mild work and Turbo 400 Tranny. I've stripped and sprayed the chassis, and the cab has been removed from the chassis and stripped compleately. All the rust has been cut out and had new sections welded in. It's been slow but it's coming along.

click on the car to bring up the thumbnails ,then click on them to bring up a bigger photo .this car restoration has taken a long time to be finished .but i wanted to have a car which when it was being restored i could see the whole process start to finish ,and i would have the peace of mind to know what was under the paint & body work afterward and that it was done correctly ,and have some hand in the restoration myself ,as this was not a quick respay .to many people buy cars that are already finished and pay some big dollars only to find after a few years the paint starts to bubble and they find the preparation work was not done properly and the body work has been done with bog and not plate welded .then you are up for a whole new paint job and who knows what other body work as well .DO IT ONCE ......DO IT RIGHT ... AND SAVE THOUSANDS .

Pre-purchase pictures from which I took the risk and purchased. Its a 80837 car that has had a 1979 made 350 and a th350 trans put in but was originally 308. The body is in very good condition with relatively minor rust and I am pretty happy with it. The ZA HT is pretty much exactly the same as the Aussie one except the engine bays are painted the body color, and the VIN tag is on the passenger door piller. The HG Monaros were marketed as Chev SS and had different fronts and tail lights.

Shed: Under HZ carpet

Having heard a few Holden owners saying that they found a build sheet under the carpet, I thought I’d check what was under the original carpet in my HZ because it looks like it had never been pulled up. The answer was a few leaves and some beach sand and in tune with being an ex-cop car, a .22 calibre bullet! I thought cops had to account for every bullet they were issued. Anyway, it was a pretty cool thing to find under the passengers seat.

These are soem of the rebuild pic's i took during the rebuild. it was painted in 2pac Galaxy Blue with a light blue perl. Ute was paint stripped and plenty of rust cut out. New rear tailgate as old one was stuffed. Used HQ tailgate hinges as they look better. Also used a WB Statesman Deville Grill into the HZ twin headlight front. as i wanted something original. Plenty of time spent! as i done 90% of the work myself.
